The Jewish New Year

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, and the other High Holy Days, are now behind us. May we each have a fulfilling and inspiring year!

JCGC hosted several services in our cemeteries during the holiday season, a traditional time for visiting the graves of loved ones. Our maintenance staff, headed by foreman Ronnie King, always takes the opportunity before the holidays to catch up on deferred maintenance and ensure that visitors find the cemeteries in a particularly good state.

As family members visit graves or make plans for visiting, there are always genealogy questions that arise. Many of you have used our genealogy database via that section on the JCGC website. If you have any trouble accessing the site or need help, you can always call the JCGC office and speak with Mary Bauer, our office manager, who spearheads the genealogy research. We take great pride in being able to provide this valuable tool to family members and genealogy researchers. Recently, we enhanced this service by making a few upgrades to the system, with more to come. In the near future, when relatives of a searched person are in the system, they will not only be listed, but there will be a hyperlink, allowing you to go directly to that person’s profile, without having to conduct a new search! We’ll also be adding maps of our cemeteries, to make finding a grave easier. Visit the site and please give us your feedback, in the meantime, so that we can make other upgrades based on your experience.

In other news, JCGC is looking forward to hosting a volunteer group from Rockdale Temple and Temple Sholom at our Walnut Hills Cemetery, on November 19th, from 1-4pm. We thank these congregations for their ongoing support of our mission to maintain and preserve these sacred spaces in perpetuity. This is part of the mitzvah of caring for our dearly departed and what is known as a Chesed Shel Emet – an Act of Loving Kindness. We look forward to hosting other volunteer days in the future with congregations and other community groups.

In service of our mission,

David Harris

Executive Director
